In May, 2007, Girl Scouts from around the Catawba Valley
met in Hickory, NC to receive their
Girl Scout Gold Award
The Gold Award is the highest achievement for Girl Scouts today.
Established in 1980, the Girl Scout Gold Award follows in the footsteps of the Golden
Eaglet, First Class and Curved Bar awards - previously the highest awards in Girl
Scouting.  The leadership skills, organizational skills and sense of community and
commitment that come from "going for the Gold" set the foundation for a lifetime of
active citizenship.
